Are there office hours?

Each teacher offers one office hour per week.

What should I do if my child is sick?

If a child is ill and cannot attend school that day, parents should inform the school reception by calling or emailing Ms. Schlandt. Ms. Schlandt will then inform the appropriate teacher. Please provide a written excuse.

Where do I get information about the missed material

Usually, the classroom teacher will place the worksheets that the child must then complete in a drop box or give it to a child in the class who will then pass on the assignments to the sick child’s family. Otherwise, the parents can make other arrangements with the classroom teacher in this regard.

Which handwriting will my child learn?

At school, we learn the school output script (Schulausgangsschrift, SAS).

At what age can my child read or write?

This varies. As a rule, children should be able to read fluently by the end of 1st grade. The focus is then on cognitive reading from 2nd grade onwards.

What can we do as a family to support the student?

Check what content was taught in class at school on a daily basis. Talk to your child. Parents should be “on the ball” and know what is happening at school.

How does the settling-in process take place in the kindergarten? How long does it last?

Yes, the children require house shoes when they are in kindergarten. These shoes should allow them to move easily during play and gymnastics.

Is English offered?

English lessons in kindergarten are not provided. Since most children have sufficient English language opportunities outside of kindergarten, the focus in kindergarten is on learning German. At school, English is taught starting in 1st grade.

Do the children need a change of clothes?

Yes, each child should bring a change of clothes from home, which we will hang on the child’s hook in the cloakroom.

How are birthdays celebrated? Can the children bring a cake?

Birthdays are celebrated in the kindergarten in their individual groups. The children may bring a cake or snacks. Exact details can be discussed with the group educator a few days before. Since the children eat enough sweets on birthdays, bringing “goodie bags” to kindergarten is not allowed.

During the cooler months, the children spend their breaks in our spacious outdoor area. The kindergarten children regularly go to the playground. During the summer months, when it is too hot to play outside, ample opportunities for exercise are provided inside the school.

Which universities accept the GIB?

The GIB is recognized by the Conference of Ministers of Education in Germany.

Can you also go to German universities of applied sciences with the GIB degree?

Yes, the GIB also includes a general entrance qualification if, in addition, a one-year internship has been carried out in qualified companies which are training companies (46 weeks of work, 6 weeks of holidays).

Are there admission tests?
