Gernot Berthold
Head of Secondary I, class 5 to 10
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela
In my professional career to date, I have been able to gain experience in a variety of roles. Before I discovered my passion as a teacher, I was engaged as a commercial clerk, as well as supporting people seeking employment in Vienna! In addition to my teaching degree in mathematics and geography/economics, I have a diploma in business administration, as well as an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk.
At the German International School I now teach the subjects mathematics, geography, and social studies! Yet for me it is not only about imparting dry knowledge. Rather, it is my goal to ensure that my students enjoy coming to school and have fun while learning. After all, learning is something beautiful that opens the door to new horizons and enables us to actively shape the world.
I firmly believe that an inspiring learning environment that addresses students’ individual needs and includes the use of new media lays the foundation for a lifetime of learning. In my role as Head of Secondary, I will work to ensure that our school is a place where the joy of learning and enthusiasm for knowledge are central.
