Back to the Stone Age – A project morning with classes 3A and 3B
Unfortunately, we did not have the appropriate Stone Age clothing on, but there were many activities around the topic ‘Stone Age’. As a conclusion of the lesson ‘Stone Age’ in science, the children could try out many activities in mixed-class groups. These were somewhat ‘modernized’ because they were easier to use, but the original methods had been discussed in class. Thus, grain was ground and made into delicious waffles, fire was made with magnifying glasses due to the lack of a fire drill and flints, paints were made, and clay pendants and grave goods were sculpted. The special role of shamans was also explained. The students were able to play games with stones and show their knowledge in a quiz. The children were also sent to a special ‘cave’ at the bottom of the staircase of the school building. There they were able to paint cave pictures and show what our world looks like today. I wonder what archaeologists will say about such ‘cave paintings’ if they happen to discover them 500 years from now?
There were so many stations that the class teachers could not have done it all by themselves. Therefore, we received active support from mothers of the two classes. They looked after the stations with a lot of love and patience and the children obviously had a lot of fun. Once again, we would like to thank them for their support.
