Easter Egg Rolling, Egg Pushing, Egg Running, Egg Twirling, Egg Throwing – it Doesn’t Matter, There Are Many Traditional Easter Egg Contests in Germany.
They are called differently depending on the region, but all these Easter Sunday traditions in Germany have one thing in common: an Easter egg has to be moved as far or as fast as possible from A to B and must not break in the process.
DIS-Doha has also adopted the tradition of rolling Easter eggs on Easter Sunday. Actually, this involves children rolling Easter eggs down a hill, but we made do with a long, slanted tube and a plastic Easter egg.
Each class from the 1st to the 11th year sent an egg roller child to the start. The enthusiastic audience was able to admire a wide variety of rolling techniques – some more effective than others. But cold-bloodedness and level-headedness when rolling paid off and so the egg roller child from class 2b was able to secure the Easter bag with the sweets for the class. In the final egg run, speed and ambition came into play once again and luckily the eggs were only made of plastic. The competition was handled confidently by the student council, who kept the excitement going until the very end.
