Following last year’s girls success in the Qatar Schools Olympic Program, the German International School has re-enlisted into the competition for the school year 2019-2020 with a new team carrying on four players from the previous year and new recruits. The team has been training intensively for this event since the beginning of the school year. Prior to the first competition, additional trainings were also held during the school breaks to practice key skills. On the 27th of January, the girls had their first game of the season against the Next Generation School, Al Wakhra Campus which was held in Zekreet Girls Primary School.
Upon arrival, the team got into their game and started with a flourishing first half leading their opponents by 5 goals to none making the most of the errors provided by the opponents. Following some half-time changes, the girls continued to play strongly in their attacking game, while at the same time building on their team skills and opening opportunities to score. The final whistle blown and the girls have won by 9-0. Six out of nine goals were scored by the MVP (Most Valuable Player) Belsam followed by Alia with two goals and one goal by Lina. Sadly for the team, Sophia, was injured prior to the competition but came along to support and encourage her team mates to victory. The team is eagerly awaiting the date for the second stage of the competition to hopefully continue in their success. Congratulations to all the young ladies and the team coach participating in this great school effort!
