Impressions of events

End of first semester music project

During the first semester the primary school students rehearse in the “Dance and Drum” activity as a project the songs „The Lion Sleeps Tonight “from Solomon and the famous and traditional South African folk song „Shosholaza”.
The students in the higher grades have decided for the song „Astronaut“ from Sido featuring Andreas Bourani. Perhaps a way to draw their audience’s attention on current world affairs. Although the project ended with a performance which lasted only 25 minutes the audience left the auditorium with a big smile on their face. In this way the students wanted to wish everybody a happy end of the first term to everyone.

Some statements to it:
“We are excited to watch the next performance, one of the parents whose child participated in the event said.
“It was original and it was nice to be able to read in the student’s shining faces excitement and self-confidence”:
“The rehearsal was boring because we keep repeating the same things until everything was. Our teacher was encouraging us.  I am proud of the result and I understand now better that we have to be patient and endure especially while working with others.“
Carnegie Mellon University – Experiments in the Bio Lab
As part of a biotechnology project recently pupils of grade 9 and 10 visited the Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar on the premises of the Qatar Foundation. The students were accompanied by Dr. Shomar, as well as principal Dirk Dillschneider, both teach the subject biology at the school. The student group breathed University air and was supported by Dr. Annette Vincent, Ph.D. (Assistant Teaching Professor, Biological Science) who provided information on the current state of research in the field of bacteriophages. In addition, the student Aya Hassan gave a short lecture on the scientific work. The group of students could then extract under the guidance in the Bio-Labs of the University the DNA (genetic material) of strawberries and had much fun. They were supported by Biology students from the University. Again a big thank’s to Dr. Vincent and her team.
