On 20 December 2013, the UN General Assembly has proclaimed 2015 as » International Year of Light and light-based technologies .« The Year of Light » is a reminder of the importance of light as an elementary life prerequisite for people , animals and plants and therefore also as a central component of science and culture . Scientific findings on the light allows a better understanding of the cosmos , leading to better treatments in medicine and new means of communication . «
As part of the worldwide Science Festival Ibn Al Haytham (also called ›Alhazen‹) was honored for his scientific work in the 10th century . His findings were the basis for further research on the light .

Science Festival at the German International School Doha
With support from Mrs. Friederike De Maeyer and Ms. Jennifer Taynen, in cooperation with the Language Centre Doha and the science teachers of the German International School Doha the science festival takes place in the German International School Doha.
November 18 for SEK I and November 19 for Elementary School. The Science Festival will be held in the auditorium and in the physics room. The students of the Pasch Net School »Tariq Bin Ziad Independent Secondary School for Boys« are also invited to the festival. It is a supplement to the scientific teaching. Short scientific films will be shown and then physical experiments will be performed.
