The German International School in Doha participated in the “generation amazing youth festival” from 17. to 21.11.2022 with 14 students as well as Herr Bodenschatz and Frau Pop as chaperones. Generation amazing is an organization founded in 2010 by Qatar Foundation as a “… movement of youth advocates, coaches, volunteers, star players and participants who care about one goal: using football to empower our youth and improve our world.” “Our mission is to use the power of football and our privileged position as FIFA World Cup™ host to transform less fortunate communities, and to spread the message of inclusion and drive social change”.
The “youth festival” brought together students from the 32 countries which qualified for the World Cup, for five days. Many schools from Doha were represented, but students were also flown in from schools around the world. Our school had the honor of representing Germany. During the five days, various workshops were held to exchange ideas and information and a football tournament was held as a sport competition.
Further highlights were certainly the visits of the mother of Brazil’s football idol Pelé, who talked about her experiences, a short visit of England’s famous footballer David Beckham and the joint stadium visit for the match Wales – USA. All participants will surely remember the five days as an exciting multicultural event. I would like to thank all our students who “sacrificed” four days of their holidays to represent our school at this event.
