From June 25 to July 1, as the school year came to a close, our school was transformed into a large workshop for sustainability, creativity, and collaborative learning. A total of 13 projects invited students from all class levels, from classes 1 to 9, to engage with nature, the environment, and the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals in a variety of ways.
The range of projects was impressive: In “Second-Chance Fashion” and “Little Designers, Big Ideas,” old clothes were transformed into new fashion and creative outfits. In the “Stomp – Rhythm Meets Sustainability” project, trash cans, bottles, brooms, and buckets were turned into percussion instruments. In the “Bottle Cap Art” project, the students designed flowerpots from bottle caps, while “Turning Waste into Wonder” demonstrated how so-called trash can be transformed into toys and skill games. And another group built the “Learning Cube” out of plastic bottles—a creative retreat for learning.
Waste sorting and resource conservation also played an important role: Participants worked with a “Waste Passport”—their personal waste sorting guide—and developed visual waste sorting stations for younger classes. In “The Green Footprint in the Gym Bag,” they examined just how sustainable sportswear, equipment, and nutrition actually are. In the paper workshop, the children made their own recycled paper—which they used to create books, cards, and even plantable paper.
Things got artistic during the climate art projects: In “Climate Crisis Meets Art,” famous masterpieces were reinterpreted against the backdrop of the climate crisis. The youngest participants in “Mission Climate Art” used paints, collages, and models to depict their visions of our Earth in the year 2030. Finally, the theater project “The Friends of the Green Forest” brought waste prevention and nature conservation to the stage with animals, butterflies, dance, and music.
The event culminated on the final day with a grand presentation for the entire school community. Numerous families visited the exhibitions, tried out games and waste-sorting stations, and engaged in conversation with the young project teams. On stage, theater, dance, athletic performances, the fashion show, and the STOMP performance provided a varied program.
During the festive ceremony, students who had earned a grade of 1 in all subjects were also honored. At the same time, we said goodbye to colleagues who were leaving our school at the end of the school year.
We thank them warmly for their dedication and the time we spent together, and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
