What’s for you won’t go by you: The rescheduled Nationwide Reading Aloud Day at the DIS Doha

6. February 2025 von Tamás Prágay-Szabó

On November 15, 2024, the nationwide Read Aloud Day took place in Germany for the 21st time. We at the DIS Doha also love reading and didn’t want to miss out on this special day. Due to many other appointments, we simply rescheduled it for December 9.

Reading together and reading aloud connects and creates closeness. Reading encourages children to discover the world with curiosity – and is the key to their future. This was exactly the motto of this year’s Read Aloud Day.

Our ‘Read Aloud Day’ was associated with various activities:

Almost every student at the DIS Doha wrote a short statement about which book they particularly liked. These were then displayed in the Mainhall for all to see. Other classes created great posters with book introductions and came dressed up as their favorite book hero. Special thanks go to our “reading mothers” and “reading teachers”, who read their favorite children’s books to small groups of students in various places in the school building with great ingenuity.

The whole day was accompanied by the regular ringing of a bell. This then introduced the ‘Drop everything and read a book’ and our students read for 10 minutes during lessons. Because: Reading connects!
