Bilingual IB® at the German International School Doha

30. May 2018 von Deutsche Internationale Schule

Bilingual IB at the German International School Doha

With great joy we celebrate our 10th anniversary in Doha this year! Since 2008 we have been in the capital of Qatar and since then our school has grown tirelessly and is constantly developing new educational areas. In 2016, launched a special variant of the “International Baccalaureate”! Here your children study the so-called “GIB” (literally: “Bilingual International Baccalaureate”) with the languages German and English.
In German, the subjects German A, History, Biology, Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the subjects English B, Mathematics, Chemistry / Visual Arts are taught in English. From 2019, the subjects of Mathematics and Chemistry are expected to be available in German.

What are the advantages that our Secondary II students have at the German International School Doha with the degree “GIB” and where are the differences to the “normal” IB?

On the one hand, of course, the double-language IB is a great feature. Your children will acquire knowledge and skills in two languages that will enable them to go their own way of life with a double chance for their further professional career!
On the other hand, the chances are increased that your child can later study his “dream subject” in Germany, because the completion of our “Bilingual IB” meets, in contrast to the “normal IB”, the conditions of universities in Germany that are aimed at students without regular “German Abitur”.

The choice of subjects offered may seem limited, but it is based on a firm agreement between the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and the Conference of Ministers of Education of the Federal Republic of Germany (KMK). German schools abroad receive financial support from Germany only if exactly this choice is offered.
As already mentioned, the “normal” IB often does not meet the requirements of the German universities and may only have the status of the so-called “Fachhochschulreife”. The “Fachhochschulreife” allows students to study only at “Fachhochschulen” (Universities of applied science), not at universities. Please also have a look at the attached graphic about the higher education system of Germany.

At the same time, the “GIB“ has the same validity as the “normal” IB – worldwide!

You will also find detailed information on our website and, of course, I will gladly explain to you all the details about our school, the Bilingual IB and the reception conditions in a personal interview. For an appointment please contact our secretary.

Join our amazing school community! We look forward to welcoming your child!
