In January, our student Emma represented our school with great success at the regional “Jugend musiziert” competition in the “Musical” category at the German School in Helsinki. With an impressive performance, she achieved the highest score of 25 points and also won the student prize for the best musical performance. We congratulate Emma on this outstanding success and wish her every success for the upcoming 2nd round, which will take place from March 20 to 24 at the German School in Warsaw.

Travel journal: Jugend musiziert in Helsinki by Emma
Day 1:
The trip to Helsinki began for me with excited butterflies in my tummy. Together with my family, we made our way to the German School in Helsinki, where the “Jugend musiziert” music competition was to take place. I could feel the special atmosphere as soon as I entered the school. You could hear music coming from the auditorium and many children were carrying their musical instruments around in cases – it was all very exciting for me. The organizers of the competition gave us a very friendly welcome. Herr Reichel, my music teacher, also accompanied me the whole time. I have been rehearsing with him for the last few weeks and months for the performance. He worked out the program, coached me in singing and gave me great tips to help me during the performance.
After we checked into the hotel, we had a rehearsal with the accompanying pianist. I got on really well with him straight away.
Day 2:
On the second day, the dress rehearsal for my musical medley took place in the morning. The stage at the German School in Helsinki was perfect for my performance. It was large and stretched out into the audience. My excitement grew, but the warm support of the organizers helped me to overcome my nervousness. It was great to meet the other young musicians and listen to their music.
In the afternoon, we explored the city in bright sunshine and freezing cold and lots of snow, which was also really great.
Day 3:
The highlight of my trip had arrived. The day of the performance of my musical medley! When I stepped on stage, I felt a mixture of great excitement and anticipation. I was scared, but I knew that everything would work out. The audience applauded and after my performance I felt overwhelmed with happiness and pride.
After my performance, we watched other children’s performances and it was impressive to see how diverse and talented the children and young people were.
Day 4:
The next morning I was allowed to perform part of my program again at the closing ceremony, because the jury gave my performance 25 out of 25 points and I received a special prize from the student jury. A lot of people were there to watch because it was open day at the German School in Helsinki. It was great to perform in front of so many people.
The trip to Helsinki and taking part in the “Jugend musiziert” competition was an extraordinary experience for me. I will never forget Helsinki!
