Snip, Snap, Tie Cut – A short intermezzo on ‘Altweiber’ at the DIS-Doha
On the Thursday before carnival, ‘oldwives’ is celebrated in Germany. Traditionally, the men’s ties are cut off by the women. In order to bring this fun custom to life at the DIS-Doha, class 4 in Ethics worked together to make ties out of paper and wool. The students then put them on, went to the main hall and ceremoniously cut off each other’s ties. They then moved on to the teachers’ room, where they put the ties on the teachers and cut them with the slogan ‘snip, snap, tie cut’. Even Herr Darmstädter, the principal, was not spared and the children ‘ambushed’ him in his office.
