Shaping the Future Together: Our German Unity Day

13. October 2026 von Tamás Prágay-Szabó

On October 1, 2026, our school community celebrated German Unity Day under the theme “Shaping the Future Together – Democracy · Diversity · Future.” In a variety of workshops, students in classes 1 through 10 explored how we can help shape our life together.

After a joint opening ceremony, students discussed, built, painted, and experimented in their classrooms and the gym. The children and teenagers developed models of a “City of the Future,” created a “Democracy Tree,” and explored the art of Arabic calligraphy. Other workshops focused on the power of words, the connections between Germany and Qatar, and fair play in sports. Students contributed their own ideas and worked together to bring them to life.

In the afternoon, we welcomed parents and guests; a special highlight was the visit by the German ambassador, who also took part in the celebration and greeted the school community with his welcome speech.

At the presentation booths, the students showcased their work and engaged in conversation with visitors. The resulting models, posters, and works of art demonstrated just how diverse the approaches to democracy and community can be.

Throughout the day, the students were able to choose one quote from among seven quotes by well-known figures that related to our theme of the day, “Democracy—Diversity—Future.” In a vote, the students chose, by a large majority, a quote by Hannah Arendt: “The right to have rights.” We are already preparing to have it printed and plan to hang the quote in the entrance area.

Many thanks to everyone who helped prepare, support, and shape this day!
