We welcome Ms Diana Guthmann, who has taken over the post of Deputy Principal of the school this year from Katrin Faske, and warmly welcome her to our school community.
Ms. Guthmann is a specialist teacher for the subjects German and German as a foreign language (DaF), ethics and history. She studied at the Universities of Erfurt and Potsdam. She graduated from the University of Kiel with a master’s degree and in particular qualified for the specific leadership tasks in a school and the associated pedagogical quality management.
Ms. Guthmann was accompanied to Doha by her eleven-year-old son, who is now a pupil of at our school.
We wish her an eventful time in Qatar and a great success at the German International School Doha.
Accordingly we start the year with a laughing and a weeping eye. The coming of Ms Guthmann also meant the leaving of Katrin Faske, who worked at our school for over 7 years. Ms Faske came to the German International School Doha in the academic year 2011/12 and since then had been teaching the subjects German, History, Ethics, Geography, Computer Science, and Physics and – since the introduction of the IB® also the subjects History and ToK * in the IB® Program. From 2012 onwards, she also held the provisional deputy head of the school, starting in 2014 she was Deputy Principal of the German International School Doha.
We have to say good-bye to a committed colleague who was very popular with her students and always particularly dedicated to them. Katrin Faske paid particular attention to German traditional events and the teaching of values at the school – in a country far from home, an important aspect for the identification of our community. Through her initiation of the Tanztheater-AG, together with all the contributors, she is also realized very creative and impressive projects and performances over the years.
Katrin Faske taught in almost all grades and has played a key role in shaping the emerging development of the school over the course of seven years – we are very grateful for that.
We say “Goodbye Ms. Faske – Bye Katrin!” and wish her a good start back in Berlin at the Jean-Krämer-School!
We will miss you!
Dirk Dillschneider
Headmaster of the German International School Doha
