We recognize strengths and weaknesses and work with them
During the months of March, April and May so-called competency tests are held at the school.
The tests cover important areas of competence in German, English and mathematics. The tests take place at all state schools in Thuringia in grades 3, 6 and 8. Each year approximately 45,000 students participate in nearly 900 schools in the competence tests. A number of foreign-country schools, including the German International School Doha, who are teaching to the Thuringian curriculum, are taking part in the competence tests.
The results of the tests provide teachers with important information “where they are with their pupils”, and are intended to stimulate educational and school development.
For this reason, interviews with teachers and school leaders are conducted annually for the benefit and handling of the tests. In addition to the results of their own class, teachers are also given back the results of schools with similar pupils (keyword: fair comparisons), which allows a better assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of teaching.
