Information about the start of the school for all students<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dear parents, dear students,<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>We welcome you to our school – especially if you are new to our school community. The school year begins on 25.08.2019 for all students of grades 2-12 and kindergarten. Class 1 will start on 26.08.2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As principal of the DIS Doha I will briefly introduce myself:
\nMy name is Dirk Dillschneider and I am head of the German International School in Doha since 01.08.2015.
\nMy former school was a multinational school in the heart of Europe. Through this work I gained experience in the Luxembourg, French, German-speaking regions of Belgium and in the German school system. In addition, I was involved in several binational project commissions. Especially in the fields of project-oriented work as well as professional orientation. In addition, I was a member of the examination commission for the acceptance of state exams by the Ministry of Education of the Saarland.<\/p>\n

In my former school, I was responsible for the implementation of school regulations. Likewise, the recognition procedures for the readiness to read or write errors and the resulting disadvantages.<\/p>\n

First day of kindergarten in the school year 2019\/20<\/strong>
\nThe first day of kindergarten is 25.08.2019 and starts at 7:45 am \u2013 8:00 am with welcoming all families in the auditorium of the school. We look forward to meeting the new children and would like to give you some information about the first day and the settle in period. Please plan enough time to lovingly accompany your child. Until 29.08.2019 the kindergarten for all children ends at 13:05. Starting from 01.09.2019, children who have already attended kindergarten in the school year 2018\/19 can stay until 14:35, for working parents until 15:25. The children, who are with us for the first time in the kindergarten, will be picked up sooner because of the settle in time. Please arrange the pick-up time individually with your group teacher.
\nOn the 28.08.2019 the first parents’ evening will take place in the kindergarten at 6 pm \u2013 7 pm. The parents’ representatives are chosen and the parents will get information about the children’s weekly schedule.
\nThe parents’ evening of the preschool will take place on 04.09.2019 from 6 pm \u2013 7 pm in the rooms of the kindergarten.<\/p>\n

The following drop off and pick-up times apply:<\/strong>
\n1. Drop off time from 7:30 am – 8:30 am
\n2. Pick up time at 2:25 pm or 3:25 pm for working parents
\n3. The kindergarten closes at 3:25 pm<\/p>\n

First week of school for grades 2-12 in the school year 2019\/20<\/strong>
\nThe first day of school for the classes 2 to 10 is the 25.08.2019.
\nClasses begin at 7:50 am and finish at 1:05 pm in the first full school week.
\nIn the first week of school lessons take place exclusively with the class teacher.<\/p>\n

The parent evenings are set and communicated at the beginning of the new school year.
\nThere will also be a parents’ evening for students who do not speak German as their native language. This DaF parents evening will take place on 09.09.2019 at 6pm.<\/p>\n

School hours<\/strong>
\nThe school building opens at 7:30 am for schoolchildren and children of the kindergarten. Classes start at 07:50am.<\/p>\n

The lesson plan up to grade 10 (IB classes are extra)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Subjects<\/strong>
\nThe subjects are listed in the timetable.
\nThe language of instruction is usually German. However, selected subjects may be taught bilingually. The school offers Islamic Studies, Arabic Studies and Qatari History in addition to the regular curriculum to accommodate country specifics.<\/p>\n

You will be informed separately about special educational concepts and offers.<\/p>\n

Consultation hours of the teachers<\/strong>
\nWe would like to point out that in the first few weeks of the school year, the school provides hours of consultation with colleagues in the timetable. Consultation hours can be arranged directly with the teachers.<\/p>\n

Additional tuition and extra-curricular activities<\/strong>
\nThe school offers German as a foreign language (DaF) in addition to German lessons. For the first time in this school year, based on a DaF concept, courses will be organized, and your children will be taught according to the language level. For this purpose, the testing was completed in the school year 2018\/19. All questions can be asked to our teachers for DaF Mrs. Orlamu\u0308nder, Mrs. Himpel and Mrs. Guthmann at the parents evening for DaF on 09.09.2019 at 18 o’clock. The DaF coordinator Frau Orlamu\u0308nder additionally offers regular office hours.
\nThe elementary school has 5 lessons per week for extra tuition and free work.
\nAfter the lesson, partly paid activities will be offered. In addition, is free supervision until 3.25pm available. The extra-curricular offer is expected to begin in mid-September 2019. We have a cooperation with STEM Explorers<\/a>. The offer will be announced in September.
\nThere is also a school partnership with the “Tariq Bin Ziyad Independent Secondary School for Boys” in Doha and with the German-Luxembourgish Schengen-Lyceum in Perl in the southwest of Germany.<\/p>\n

Mensa and payment system<\/strong>
\nIn the school year 2019\/20, Integral Food Services WLL (Kids Canteen) is responsible for the catering service of our school. Lunch is expected from the second week of school. Registration and a rehearsal dinner take place in the first week of school. More information will follow.<\/p>\n
