Last Thursday, 2.5.2019, the play “Bimbo and His Bird” was performed by class 4a. Mr Dieudonn\u00e9’s class had invited the school community to watch them perform their play this morning. The basis for this play, the book with the same name by the Austrian children’s book author Martin Auer, was awarded the Children’s Book Prize of the Ministry of Culture of North Rhine-Westphalia.<\/p>\n

“Bimbo and His Bird” is a play that makes children strong because Bimbo and his bird support each other nicely, even against a huge giant. The idea of bringing “Bimbo and His Bird ” to the stage already existed in January 2019. After the individual roles for “Bimbo” were quickly filled, they decided to play the piece with a female second cast: “Bimba and Her Bird”. At the same time the rehearsals were starting in the classroom, in February 2019, Frau Karnebogen’s art group began to design the backdrops needed for the performance. Parents of class 4a took care of the costumes and masks of the animals and the decoration.<\/p>\n

After the Easter holidays, the time had come: Rehearsals were now held in the auditorium. “Bimbo and Bimba” were rehearsed alternatively – directed by Mr. Dieudonn\u00e9 – until the individual character roles were absorbed.<\/p>\n

On 2 May it was finally the premiere: At 9:00 clock the 4a played their “Bimbo and His Bird” in front of the Kindergarten children, who as a small gift after the performance each were given their own Swan. For this purpose, the children of 4a had crafted about 150 swans in art classes. Then, at 10:45, the children stood on stage for the entire primary school with “Bimba and Her Bird”.<\/p>\n

The evening performance, in front of the parents of the children of 4a and their relatives, was the icing on the cake of this successful theater project.. Last but not least, the play and class 4a with all its contributors has placed another building block for a strong and harmonious school community, and “Bimbo and His Bird” served the practical, playful and representational training and deepening of the German language.<\/p>\n

“Bimbo and His Bird” is particularly suitable to explain pupils’ experiences of success in their own learning process and strengthening their self-confidence with “German as a Foreign Language”.
