During the Advent season in many regions of Germany the “Wichteln” is custom. One gets together particularly in groups and with colleagues, draws a slip of paper from a pot with the name of a group member, for whom one then secretly buys a gift. On a fixed date Secret Santa gifts are distributed anonymously. There are many forms of “Wichteln”. Very popular is also the “Junk Secret Santa”, where you do not buy gifts, but give something that you always wanted to get rid of!
