The following charts are intended to illustrate some key features of the German higher education system, especially the university system, supplemented by brief explanatory comments. For the sake of clarity and readability, it has often been impossible
to avoid simplification and incompleteness, especially in cases where Germany’s federal structure allows for considerable variation. The statistical data provided in the charts and comments have been taken from a variety of sources. See the Appendix for a complete list.
