Why mixed-age groups?
- Creating an environment for children that is stimulating and family-complemental is of utmost importance.
- Children under the age of three do not provide each other with a lot of stimulus with respect to development, be it in intercultural, linguistic or social terms. Therefore, being together with older children is an advantage for them.
- Thus younger children receive numerous developmental impulses in the linguistic-cognitive area.
- In living together with the three-year-olds, older children can, in turn, gain social competence by assuming responsibility for the younger ones.
- The passing on of acquired skills strengthens self-esteem.
- Older children develop social skills such as willingness to help, consideration and comfort.
- There is less competition and thus less aggression observed.
- The focus is concentrated on the wellbeing and development of every child.
- In mixed-age groups of children, there is a great variety of stimulus – that comes not only from the teachers but also, to a great extent, from the children themselves.
- Every day there are special focal points and offers that benefit our mixed-age groups of 3 to 6-year-olds.
